First Post - A week in Indonesia

After a week of traveling and looking about, we're settling into the rhythm here and looking forward to a full month of fantastic food, friendly people, clean streets(!), and, well, a honeymoon!

The short version is that we're now on the island of Bali, trying to find an apartment to rent for about a month in the little town of Ubud. You may recognize the name of village if you have read Eat, Pray, Love - Elizabeth Gilbert found love here. I can see how anyone could find love here - Bali, and especially Ubud, is beautiful, welcoming, and very comfortable. A Hindu (and Buddhist) island sandwiched within the 17,000+ Muslim islands of Indonesia, it has everything we love: mountains, the ocean, smiling people, a focus on culture and the arts, and amazing food. While Ubud (and Bali, in general) is fairly touristy, there seems to be no shortage of local beliefs, daily rituals, weekly ceremonies, and overall blending of ancient and modern in everyday life. And, it seems to be pretty easy to get off the beaten tourist track if you so desire.

A few images we've collected are below. One of the things that's surprised me is how often I think about my lovely community back home - it's a wonderful feeling! Some of these images might make sense to you, some might not. If you want to see something in particular, send me an email (my regular address, not the blogger address for me).
